|Diplomas, Double-shifts, downpours, and DUIs.

Oh my what a horrible day it was.
My darling wife is 7 months pregnant. A week or so ago, she started having contractions. Pretty severe ones. So, they put her on a medication to stop that. That medication appears to be having a bad effect on her pre-existing heart condition. She also feels like absolute shit on the meds. She HAD been feeling great.
I had decided to work a double shift, as we have 3 kids, and never quite enough money. Overtime is a wonderful thing. Well... usually.
Around 8 PM, she called and told me that another car skidded off the road, and into the woods in front of our house. It happens, usually in the winter with a little ice and snow. Virginians in general can't handle snow... so a slight downhill and a sharp turn are all it takes to put people off the road, and into our yard.
Well... This was a bright, warm, sunny day. So what happened? A stupid 18 year old douche-bag happened. He just graduated, and just received his diploma earlier that day. In typical douche-style, he decided to get drunk with some friends, and start driving.
My neighbors saw what happened. They cut a corner too closely, and almost hit a scooter head on. Swerving to avoid him, and by swerving, I mean, "don't step on your breaks".... At all. So Innertia took over, and they wound up off the road, and in the woods. Two of them got out of the truck, and ran off. Apparently, they didn't want to get caught at the scene drunk, so they took off. The other 2 proceeded to dump out the last of their beers, and thow the empty cans into my yard. (Thanks douchebags!)
Unfortunately, the douchebags were seen by my neighbors doing these very stupid things.
So the cops came, and dragged 2 of the douches off to jail, and a tow truck dragged the wreck off to a junkyard.
A little while later... maybe 2 hours... it started to rain. Summer rains out here can be a real bitch.
Yeah... That tiny triangle is where my house is... and all that deep red around it is "HOLY SHIT" thunderstorms. Those thunderstorms caused my Family Room to flood. Again. (I'm really impressed that the laminate floor in there has held up as well as it has, having flooded a few times now)
So my poor wife, (7 months pregnant, medicated, feeling awful, with 3 unruly kids, and just coming back from a DUI in the front yard) now suddenly has to run outside, in the storm, to open the gate, to let the water out, and divert the flood. The kids were surprisingly good. They got all the towels we had, and helped my poor wife sop up the mess.
My wife had just washed all those towles in anticipation of her parents coming for a visit. They were coming up for a visit, because her meds were making her heart condition worse, and she wanted to have her parents come and help... Just in case.
And I was home for none of this.
My poor, poor wife gets lots of credit for handling all of this... and handeling it so well.
Lets just hope that tomorrow is a better day.
