The internet devalues anything it touches.... [Jan. 14th, 2012|03:57 am]
[Tags|, , , , ]
[Current Mood |thirstythirsty]

This is very true.  Unfortunately, I work, and mostly live on the internet.

And although the article doesn't list it, porn is totally devalued.  I remember back in the 90s, you could buy porn websites on CD-rom, and set up your own porn server in days.  Just collect the membership dues, and occasionally buy new content.

But now, you can stream entire porn movies for free!!
Sites like

http://xhamster.com/  ...just to name a few.  :-P

You can also get college level education online, for free, from places like

Speaking of earth, you can get a a huge amount of gardening information online as well.
Ecology Action has a "biointinsive" growing plan that is really interesting.  They say that in about 2000 sq ft, you can feed a person, meeting all of their nutritional, and caloric needs. Thats a bed about 45 ft by 45 feet.  Not bad!
And now they have included how-to videos:  http://www.johnjeavons.info/video.html

I like gardening.  I just dont seem to have enough time to do it.  And no... its got nothing to do with those porn movie sites!  :-P

I spend more time commuting than most people do working.  Its a shame really.  I wish I had more time to pursue my other ambitions.   There are so many things that I find interesting, or cool, and I never get a chance to play with.

Like this:
Raspberry Pi  - Its a $25 computer, the size of a creditcard,
Gumstix - Its a computer the size of a stick of gum.

Now... I'm not sure what I would use them for... But you have to admit that they are really fucking cool!

ok... Thats enough links from me.

I have imparted some knowledge on you.  Lets see what you do with it!

In the past 6 months.... [Jan. 11th, 2012|10:52 pm]

[Current Music |No music... Just listening to the rain]

Wow... so...um... I didnt realize that it has been so long since I posted anything.

Well... My son F is one.  HE has been an absolute rollercoaster.  At around 3 months, he had some kind of seizure, so my wife took him in to the doc.  That started about 3 months of not growing, and not developing.  At 6 months old, he was like a 3 month old.  We also found out that he has a very rare condition called "autosomal dominant cutis laxa".  Google it.

Basically, he doesnt produce Elastin, which is the elastic protein in the body, that makes everything stretchy.  Without it, his skin sags, his blood vessels don't stretch so well, and neither do his lungs, or any other tissue.  This can lead to emphysema, aneurism, and a host of other issues.  The cacth is, that no one knows how bad it will be.  The Dominant strain he has is the "better" strain to have.  The recessive ones tend to cause death at an early age.  But since there are so few people (50 in the world they say), they arent really sure what to expect.  So... He will be going in for regular doctor and specialist visits, to make sure he doesn't develop any other issues.

My daughter T turned 2.  She is an absolute handfull.  F's therapist noticed how advanced she was today.  She was blown away.  Unfortunately, she seems to be using her powers for evil. :-P  Shes not sleeping so well.  Very fussy at night.  And she wants to do EVERYTHING her self... which she cant always do.  Shes only 2!  But that doesnt stop her from TRYING to cook lunch... :-P

G is my son... but hes really pissing me off lately.  Hes not eating dinner... scoffing at whatever is served.  Hes WAY too into his videogames... gets totally absorbed by them... and the fucking TV shows...  Hes a good kid.  He is.  Hes just pissing me off.  He joined Cub Scouts this year.  Its kinda exciting.  He likes seeing his friends there.  They have a pine wood derby coming up soon.  They gave out kits, and we make cars, and race them.  Its kinda cool.  G is so excited.

B is 9 now... Cant believe she is getting so old.  She is very sensitive, cries alot.  But she is probably the most "together" of my kids.  Shes doing great in school, and has lots of friends, and is really doing well.

H is 11.  ELEVEN!  OMG i feel old.  She is also a nut.  She and the wife butt heads ALL the time.  They are too similar.  And then they just keep escalating... and escalating...  The i have to step in, and everyone thinks I'm the bad guy then.  And my wife HATES to be told she is doing anything wrong... so I really catch hell from her.  But she doesnt realize that not every fight has to be a "scorched earth" battle.  Unfortunately, this includes me....  Oh well.

A few weeks ago, when H got into an argument with my wife, she said she would just walk to Mc Donalds, and then ARGUED that she could do it if she wanted to.  BAD idea... I made her walk all the way there (about 1.5 miles) and then all the way back to school (another 1.5 miles)... IN THE RAIN.  She didn't want to admit that it SUCKED... but she will NEVER challenge me that way again.

My wife and I have been having some ups and downs.  The Good Times are Great... But the Bad Times are HORRIBLE.  And they take forever to go away.  Luckily I have some good friends to lean on.  They make almost anything bearable.

Ok... Thats enough for one post.  I'll post more soon.  Maybe after I have some more tea.

So... My dad, my 2 brothers, and my brothers girlfriend visited the weekend before Turkey day. My brothers are (slowly) growing up. They are about 30 now... so... I guess they have to at some point.

My dad looked really old for the first time. There wasn't one specific thing... but overall... just looked old. (I'm over 30, so I guess he really is getting old) It's just kinda strange I guess.

So they ate me out of house and home... They eat SO much and do SO little. They slept on my couch all day!

Then they left, I had 2 days of work... and they were both CHAOS.

Night 1 was a 24 conference call with a bunch of tools that have NO idea what they are doing. I spent 10 hours on that call before I handed it off to the AM shift.

Night 2 was worse. I found out that 2 guys I work with have been laid off. In addition, so has my manager's co-manager.... his boss... his bosses boss... It's a complete mess. And why we lost 2 and the other shifts lost one or NONE... I don't know... But I don't like it.

And the night we lost 2 guys... my wife lost power. They day before Thanksgiving, when my wife expected to prepare everything... WE LOSE POWER. Not just for a few hours... but for 18+ hours! My wife was going ape-shit. I drove around the block, just to see who had power, and who didn't... because the house across the street did, but we didn't...

I saw no less than 15 trucks. Cable company... power company... various utilities... it was insane. Days later, the area they were working in is still roped off with Caution tape.

So now... I'm glad to be back at work... but it's to see they guys that are leaving. They have 30 days here still, and then they get their severance packages. I'm not sure if the company is being nice, or giving them a chance to fuck up their severance packages. Either way... they are working till Christmas. Then things get wacky.

And to add a little lemon juice to the paper cuts in my life... The Verizon Droid phone that I want is on back order. *sigh*

Diplomas, Double-shifts, downpours, and DUIs. [Jun. 15th, 2009|12:29 am]
[Current Mood |indescribable]

Oh my what a horrible day it was.

My darling wife is 7 months pregnant.  A week or so ago, she started having contractions.  Pretty severe ones.  So, they put her on a medication to stop that.  That medication appears to be having a bad effect on her pre-existing heart condition.  She also feels like absolute shit on the meds.  She HAD been feeling great.

I had decided to work a double shift, as we have 3 kids, and never quite enough money.  Overtime is a wonderful thing.  Well... usually.

Around 8 PM, she called and told me that another car skidded off the road, and into the woods in front of our house.  It happens, usually in the winter with a little ice and snow.  Virginians in general can't handle snow... so a slight downhill and a sharp turn are all it takes to put people off the road, and into our yard.

Well... This was a bright, warm, sunny day.  So what happened?  A stupid 18 year old douche-bag happened.  He just graduated, and just received his diploma earlier that day.  In typical douche-style, he decided to get drunk with some friends, and start driving.

My neighbors saw what happened.  They cut a corner too closely, and almost hit a scooter head on. Swerving to avoid him, and by swerving, I mean, "don't step on your breaks"....  At all.  So Innertia took over, and they wound up off the road, and in the woods.  Two of them got out of the truck, and ran off.  Apparently, they didn't want to get caught at the scene drunk, so they took off.  The other 2 proceeded to dump out the last of their beers, and thow the empty cans into my yard.  (Thanks douchebags!)

Unfortunately, the douchebags were seen by my neighbors doing these very stupid things.

So the cops came, and dragged 2 of the douches off to jail, and a tow truck dragged the wreck off to a junkyard.

A little while later... maybe 2 hours... it started to rain.  Summer rains out here can be a real bitch.

Yeah... That tiny triangle is where my house is... and all that deep red around it is "HOLY SHIT" thunderstorms.  Those thunderstorms caused my Family Room to flood.  Again.  (I'm really impressed that the laminate floor in there has held up as well as it has, having flooded a few times now)

So my poor wife, (7 months pregnant, medicated, feeling awful, with 3 unruly kids, and just coming back from a DUI in the front yard) now suddenly has to run outside, in the storm, to open the gate, to let the water out, and divert the flood.  The kids were surprisingly good.  They got all the towels we had, and helped my poor wife sop up the mess.

My wife had just washed all those towles in anticipation of her parents coming for a visit.  They were coming up for a visit, because her meds were making her heart condition worse, and she wanted to have her parents come and help... Just in case.

And I was home for none of this.

My poor, poor wife gets lots of credit for handling all of this... and handeling it so well.

Lets just hope that tomorrow is a better day.

[Current Mood |anxiousanxious]

I'm currently sitting on my couch, watching the Parent Trap for the 4th time, because my son loves it, waiting to find out if my mother is moving in with us today.

Sound ridiculous?  It is.  It's just par for the course.  My mother who was originally supposed to move in back in January still has not.  She is supposed to have called us this morning when she left the house... but we got no phone call.  And she has no cellphone, because my retarded brother's retarded dog ate it.

In other news, we are still working on home improvement projects.  And I added another to the list.  I have to fix the hole I punched in the wall.  I'm not usually a violent guy, but I was running down the stairs, when I saw my son's building blocks on the step below me.  I side stepped the block... and landed on the wooden car.  OUCH!  I twisted my ankle, fell down the remaining steps, and hit the wall out of anger from the pain.  And then I was removing my hand from the hole in the wall.    FUCK!!!!!!!    Then my wife burst into tears, and proceeded to make me feel like absolute shit.

For the record, she destroyed the oven, by throwing her keys at it, and shattering the glass front.  Ka-Pow!  I didn't say anything to her about it, because I knew she already felt lousy about it.  I guess I don't get the same consideration.

My wife's belly is getting bigger and bigger each day.  I've felt the baby kick a few times.  Part of me still can'y believe that we are about to do this all over again.

Ok.  Well... I have some stress relief techniques I 'm working on... so... I'll be back later.

Yesterday was rough. [Mar. 21st, 2009|12:04 pm]
[Current Mood |draineddrained]

Yesterday, I was woken up by my wife screaming that we had overslept.  This was a problem, because I had court today.  I was found guilty of speeding, and driving without a license.  I'm appealing the Driving without a license.  That one is bullshit.  Fuck the VA DMV.

But slightly more stressful was finding out that my wife's best friend had removed not only her... but both of us from fer Facebook friends list.  AND... had her entire family do the same.  WTF is this?  Jr High?

They got into a fight because my wife was feeling a little unapppreciated, and a little used.  So, she stopped calling her back for a day or two.  Might not seem like much... but for people who talk everyday, multiple times a day... it was.  So suddenly my wife's friend is going all "Scorched Earth" on her about shit that had nothing to do with anything.

Then, my wife sent an email, asking for her blue dress back, and what to do about some Girlscout cookies she had ordered thru us, and that my oldest daughter was upset that no one from her family was going to come to her singing performance.    How do you tell an 8 year old that the family she knew since BIRTH aren't going to be her friends any more?  So my wife just said that they couldn't come to the show, and she was upset.

When my wife mentioned that my daughter was upset.... the response is "Well... I don't know what YOU said to her to make her so upset, but that's not on me."  Wow.  That was more dick-ish than I've seen in a long, long time.

So my wife is terribly upset by the whole thing.

Now... They have gotten into spats before, like most friends do.  And when she is being an ass, I have no reservations about calling her on it.   I have no reservations when i say, this is NOT her fault.  She didn't go off on her freind.  She has actually been very restrained about the whole thing.  She hasn't blasted this other woman on her blog, nor has she blasted her in Facebook, or in email.  Even tho she is so very hurt by all of this.

My wife may be a huge pain in my ass from time to time... but she isn't the devil, and doesn't deserve this level of crap.

So.. on today's agenda is more gardening.  I have to prep the front flowerbeds.  I think we're doing ferns, and bleeding hearts.  Little else seems to grow in the shady corners in front of the house.

Ok.. Seeds to be started.

Today we went to the Smithsonian Air and Space museum.  I took some time off for that Vermont trip, and since that was a waste, we decided to use the time for SOMETHING family orented.  We were supposed to go yesterday, but the kids were unbelieveably bad first thing in the morning... so we postponed it.

Taking the Metro was an event in and of it's self.  3 kids, and a pregnant wife is a handfull.    Then when we got there, the kids were more interested in DOING than Looking.  That's not so good at a museum.

The kids liked seeing the Wright Brothers exhibit, and all the planes and rockets , and were really interested in in the UAV's.  Cool stuff.

Now I've really got to get working on the gardens.
